About

Emily Laurent Henderson is an Inuk and settler writer, curator, and creative consultant based in Southern Ontario. With her practice rooted in Inuit and Indigenous creative and cultural sovereignty, her commentary on contemporary topics in art and culture have been featured in national titles such as C Magazine, the Inuit Art Quarterly, Studio Magazine and more. She has spoken and presented across Canada and the United States and has been a member of the Indigenous curatorial teams at both the Art Gallery of Ontario and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Additionally, she was the first full-time Inuk editor at the legacy publication the Inuit Art Quarterly, co-leading the historic first issue of the magazine to feature all-Inuit writers in 2019. In 2024, her book of poetry Hold Steady My Vision was published through Musagetes Foundation and Publication Studio Guelph.

Henderson’s landmark exhibition “Worlds on Paper: Drawings from Kinngait” opened in March 2025 and was accompanied by an award-winning exhibition catalogue. She also has curatorial credits at the Art Gallery of Ontario and the ImagineNATIVE Film +Media Arts Festival. She has been an advisor and advisory team member to numerous arts institutions across Canada, including SAW Gallery in Ottawa, ON, and the Toronto Arts Council in Toronto, ON.
